UNIC URW-506 lifting steel beams at Heathrow airport

A UNIC mini crane was able to get this job at London Heathrow Airport off to a flying start thanks to its compact and portable lifting power.

A 3 tonne capacity UNIC URW-506 mini spider crane and an experienced crane operator hired from GGR Group took on the task of installing a new steel frame for a display screen at Terminal 3 Departures where no doubt there will soon be many excited travellers waiting to jet off on their summer holidays.

Over two night shifts the mini crane lifted steel beam sections to a 10 metre height, the largest weighing 300kg and measuring 5 metres long.  The crane worked at a 9 metre radius and had to lift around obstacles such as a 3.4 metre tall information screen.

As well as our compact cranes, GGR’s glazing robots and lifting solutions have also been hired for work at UK airports. Our EMU robot and Steel Manipulator Head were used at Heathrow airport, an EMU installed cladding at Edinburgh airport and a pair of Glassmax 250 hoists fitted advertising screens at Gatwick airport.
