The Oscar 1000, GGR’s highest capacity glazing robot, helped create the air of luxury in London Heathrow Airport’s brand new terminal by installing glass to the Harrods store.
The 1000kg capacity Oscar glass installation robot used its rotating dual circuit vacuum lifting head to handle the 4.2 metre tall glass units for the shop front of the terminal’s mini Harrods. The zero-emissions robot was ideal for use in this congested space.
Rebranded as “The Queen’s Terminal”, Heathrow’s new Terminal 2 has undergone a £2.5 billion makeover to modernise it from when it was built in the 1950s. The terminal had its grand opening in early June and will be visited by the building’s namesake, Her Majesty herself, at the end of the month.
Exclusive to hire and purchase from GGR, the Oscar robots are ideal for shop front glass fitting jobs, offering more lifting power than other robots on the market.
Another alternative lifting solution for internal retail glazing jobs is the new Liftboy 700 counterbalanced floor crane. This 700kg capacity machine was hired to work on another luxury department store, this time Selfridges. Working in a very tight space, the 763mm wide Liftboy was fitted with a TS1000 textured glass vacuum lifter to install arcs of glass onto the floor around a new store display feature.
