UNIC URW-506 Mini Spider Crane lifting a maypole.

GGR Group supported a customer preparing for a summer event at a private members’ club. The customer needed a safe lifting solution for a maypole weighing around 600kg. GGR Group supplied a UNIC URW-506 Mini Spider Crane with an experienced operator. The project called for careful planning, accurate positioning, and controlled lifting.

The lift centred on a tall maypole structure with a decorative feature on top. The main column had to reach a height of 8.4 metres. A horse structure added a further 3 metres above the column. The final installation needed to look impressive and remain suitable for live event use.

This was not a typical construction lift. The maypole carried strong visual impact for the event setting. Dancers would also use it as part of their performance. That meant the lift needed to support both presentation and practical use.

GGR Group worked closely with the customer and their installation team before and during the lift. The teams aligned the lifting sequence with the installation requirements on site. This helped everyone understand the positioning, timing, and handling needed for the maypole. Clear communication kept the work controlled from start to finish.

GGR Group selected the UNIC URW-506 for its compact design and lifting capability. The crane can lift up to 3 tonnes at 3.4 metres. It also offers a maximum lifting height of 16 metres. This gave the operator the reach and capacity needed for the 600kg structure.

The customer wanted more than equipment-only crane hire. GGR Group supplied the crane with a trained operator to deliver a complete lifting service. The operator managed each movement with care throughout the installation. This approach helped keep the project efficient, controlled, and professionally managed.

On site, the operator lifted the maypole steadily into position. GGR Group coordinated with the installation team as the structure moved into place. The column reached the required 8.4-metre height safely and accurately. The finished installation created a standout centrepiece for the summer event.

The maypole became both a decorative feature and a working part of the performance. It added height, colour, and character to the private members’ club setting. More importantly, dancers could perform with it during the event. The successful lift helped the customer prepare the venue with confidence.
