GL-UMC600 at The Peninsula removing canopy glassWhen a broken glass canopy panel outside an office building in Manchester city centre needed to be replaced, a UNIC URW-095 mini spider crane and expert crane operator were hired from GGR Group to take on the job.

Working in the limited space outside the entrance to The Peninsula building in central Manchester, the 0.995 tonne capacity compact crane was fitted with a specially modified GL-UMC600 glass manipulator head to remove the 500kg smashed panel. The unit had to be removed from underneath as it was the top leaf of the glass that had been damaged.

To work underneath the canopy, this 600kg capacity GL-UMC600 robotic head was fitted with an angled fixing bracket that was developed for this job by GGR’s in-house technical team. This modification allowed the vacuum lifting head to tilt back further for removing the glass from the low canopy. This innovative bracket design is now available with the GL-UMC600 glazing robots for future canopy glazing work.
