As part of GGR’s 20^th birthday celebrations we held a Bone Marrow Donor Registration Day in support of Team Margot and Delete Blood Cancer UK. Team Margot was set up in memory of little 2 year old Margot who lost her battle with Leukaemia in October 2014. Since losing their precious daughter, Margot’s family have been campaigning tirelessly to raise awareness of leukaemia and the need for more bone marrow donors to be on the international donor register.
Every 20 minutes someone in the UK is diagnosed with a blood cancer such as Leukaemia, Lymphoma
or Myeloma and only 30% of those people find a donor within their own family. This is why it is important for as many people as possible to register to become a donor. Delete Blood Cancer UK’s vision is a world where there is a willing and suitable donor for everyone who needs one. They ask – Could you be someone’s match?

Team Margot work in conjunction with various charities to increase the number of registered donors through raising public awareness through the media, helping to run donor registration days and with their ‘Just One More’ campaign. The aim is to get everyone already registered to encourage ‘Just One More’ person to join. Team Margot would like the bone marrow donor register to be in line with the blood donor register – approximately 4% of the UK population are currently blood donors. More people on the register ultimately means more lives will be saved.

GGR held the event and registered 56 new donors made up of GGR team members and their families.   GGR covered the cost of the new registrations and made a donation of £2,240 to Delete Blood Cancer UK. We are very proud of the GGR team and very grateful to Team Margot and Delete Blood Cancer UK for their support in making the event run smoothly.

The Delete Blood Cancer UK team visited our Long Crendon Depot to receive their cheque and to meet some of the GGR team that signed up to join the register.
