Project Overview

The Libro 1200 3D Head Overhang Beam successfully completed the installation of seven new panes of glass on the captain’s bridge of the Arendal Spirit ship in Tenerife, in partnership with Glasslift, a UNIC Cranes Dealer based in Poland. This task was particularly challenging due to the immediate vicinity of the sensitive electronics used to control the ship. The glass panes, weighing between 330kg and 670 kg, required precise and careful handling to ensure safety and avoid damage to the ship’s critical systems.
Equipment Utilised
Libro 1200 3D Head Overhang Beam
The Libro 1200 3D head overhang beam is designed for high-level and low-level lifting tasks and is the ideal choice for installing large glass, inclined glass, and façade elements in hard-to-reach places such as façade apertures, soffits, and building overhangs of up to 3000mm.
Key features include:
Glass Vacuum Lifter Robotic Head Attachment: Ensures secure handling and precise placement of glass panes of up to 1200kg or 1000kg for curved glass.
Counterweight Saddle: Movable along the beam to balance the load, operated by cable remote control or radio remote control.

Anti-Tilt Switch: Prevents the counterweight balancer from tilting more than 10 degrees, ensuring stability and safety.
Cable remote control for counterweight saddle: Controlled by cable remote, the counterweight saddle can be moved along the beam to balance the load being lifted.
Radio remote control for vacuum head control: Precisely lift, shift and manoeuvre glass loads into difficult to access areas.
Challenges
Load Capacity and Space Constraints
The installation site presented several obstacles:
Floor Load Capacity: The floor’s load capacity of 500kg/m² required careful planning and weight distribution during the installation. However, by attaching the Libro Overhang Beam to the ship’s onboard crane, we effectively eliminated the floor loading constraints.

Distance and Space: The 127cm distance between the glass installation point and the ship’s electronics required meticulous handling. The glass needed to fit into an opening of approximately 115cm and be laid flat over the expensive electronics for precision manoeuvre and installation.
Execution
The team successfully replaced the more difficult-to-access panes through the use of the remote control to facilitate accurate manipulation, ensuring the glass was installed with pinpoint precision.
