Installing acoustic doors with the ECO-295 Mini Spider Crane in Woolwich Creative District.

Tasked with installing acoustic doors for a cultural hub local to South East London, GGR Group had to consider the challenges of navigating the safe and efficient lifting and installation of these acoustic doors. As a part of one of five listed buildings being restored into public cultural venues, extra care had to be taken when working in this historic building.

The completion of the site survey, lift plan and risk assessment revealed that multiple lifting methods would need to be used for the best result. GGR Group selected the UNIC ECO-295 Mini Spider Crane Wheeled and the Mobile Gantry Crane 5000.

After the delivery doors arrived on site within the foyer using the Mobile Gantry Crane GGR slinged and lifted the acoustic doors from the pallet to the client’s skates. After the client had skated the doors to the working area GGR set up the ECO-295 in the performance hall, which had previously been transported to the hall over plywood sheets.

Installing acoustic doors with the ECO-295 Mini Spider Crane in Woolwich Creative District. The ECO-295 was selected for this part of the project because of its compact size for fitting through doorways and lifting in confined areas. Fully battery-powered GGR’s range of ECO UNIC cranes also produces zero fumes, allowing easy lifting in this listed building without worrying about damage from pollutants.

With the ECO-295 lifting the doors through the 3.6m tall doorway opening GGR had to factor in the height restrictions and the precision lifting needed to safely lift through the doorway. On the opposite side of the wall where the acoustic doors waited on the client’s skates had a ceiling height of 4.5m with the doors positioned 1.5m from the opening. GGR’s operator carefully lifted and manoeuvred both doors through the opening. Once positioned on the correct side of the wall the sling was reapplied to the door’s lifting eyes. With the new slinging method the operator lifted the door vertically and manipulated it into place on the hinges for installation. This process was repeated again for the second acoustic door.

This lift was completed successfully due to coordination between GGR’s lift team and the client along with the provided innovative lifting solutions. GGR Group’s expert lifting team provided our client with all the right experience needed to execute this lift efficiently and safely. Combined with two cranes that were fume-free and designed for lifting in challenging spaces this project was completed with finesse.
