GGR Group were presented with the Silver Award under the Ministry of Defence Recognition Scheme in Greater Manchester on 14 November 2023.
The event saw a gathering of fellow Silver Award winners who are like-minded in their dedication to supporting Defence and the wider Armed Forces community. Notable guest speakers also made an appearance; Wing Commander (Royal Air Force Air Cadets) Jo Stratton, Colonel Lindsey Forbes – Deputy Commander Army Headquarters North West and Andy Reid MBE – Standing Tall Foundation. This made for a memorable evening where attendees could truly see the importance their contribution to the scheme has made.
This recognition reflects the company’s commitment to supporting the defence and armed forces community, aligning with the principles of the Armed Forces Covenant. GGR Group’s efforts to provide equal opportunities and flexibility to serving members, veterans, and their families contribute to the positive progression of the scheme.
The acknowledgement of the unique skills that military personnel bring to the company, particularly in areas such as engineering and plant operation, highlights GGR Group’s recognition of the valuable assets these individuals possess. By actively promoting its support for the defence community, GGR Group not only creates a welcoming environment for current employees but also contributes to raising awareness and inspiring other employers to follow suit.
The provision of accommodative additional leave for Reserves training demonstrates GGR Group’s understanding of the importance of supporting Reservists in managing their additional duties. Furthermore, fostering a positive environment where all staff acknowledge the challenges and sacrifices faced by military personnel and their families contributes to a workplace culture of empathy and support.

Colonel Mark Underhill OBE DL, Chief Executive at the North West of England and the Isle of Man Reserve Forces’ and Cadets’ Association (NW RFCA), said:

GGR Group’s Roger Millar, Director of Operations reflected on the company’s achievement: “From the tender age of 16, I served for a total of 32 years in the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineer, completing my service as an Officer Commanding and as you’d expect from someone with my background, I am very proud that we have been awarded this accolade. GGR Group are thrilled to take on the Silver level award for such an important scheme that encourages others to show their support to defence. The Defence ERS brings much needed attention to a group of people that deserve recognition for their service.”
