Refurbishment of Edinburgh’s Royal Commonwealth swimming pool is well under way and The City of Edinburgh Council recently brought in two of the highest capacity Unic mini spider cranes to help with the latest phase of the project.

The swimming pool is a listed building, originally built for the 1970 Commonwealth Games, and will reopen to the public in Spring 2012 after a complete makeover. 

GGR’s 6 tonne Unic URW-706 mini crane was compact enough to get inside the listed building and use its lifting power to move the concrete supports which will make up the seating area around the pool.

Spiral staircases up to the pool’s diving boards were also installed using a 3 tonne Unic URW-506 mini crane which could easily access the poolside area and move the stone pieces into place.

Yet another successful swimming pool project for GGR Group! Although we’re guessing it was a little colder in Edinburgh than at the Sheikh’s palace in the desert…
