glass fin lifter planar glass lifting

GGR’s lifting team had a tall order when it came to installing glass fins for Birmingham’s One Snow Hill building.

This 57 metre tall building, which is home to KPMG and Barclays utilises a glazed curtain walling system akin to the Pilkington Planar ® system.  The system comprises of glass fins and stainless steel countersunk fittings to fix the glass façade to the building’s structure.

Extra-long glass fins were easily installed in the full height atrium of this 260,000 square foot building thanks to GGR’s specialist glass vacuum lifter, the Kombi 7211 Cede SO02 and our UNIC URW-376 mini crane. The 7 metre long vacuum lifter is loaded with two independent vacuum circuits, to safely handle glass weighing up to 900kg.

The glass fins could easily be lifted and rotated into their vertical position thanks to the Kombi’s 180 degree rotation twinned with the mini crane’s 2.9 tonne lifting power.  The result is a grand entrance that allows natural light to penetrate deep into this award-winning building.
