Proving that UNIC mini cranes truly are lean, mean lifting machines fit for any challenge, GGR headed to the West Midlands to help build a swimming pool in a brand new leisure centre.
A 0.995 tonne capacity UNIC URW-095 mini spider crane showed off its lifting muscles to handle sections of metal framework and decking pieces to construct the adjustable swimming pool floor. The 25 metre, six lane swimming pool has a movable floor which can be lowered or raised depending on how deep the pool needs to be for different activities.
Working at a 4 metre radius next to the pool and underneath a low ceiling, the UNIC mini crane lifted four 300kg drive motors and many 100kg metal beams down 3.5 metres to the bottom of the pool. Unlike a couple of us after an indulgent Christmas, the UNIC URW-095 mini crane doesn’t carry any extra weight at just 1850kg and is incredibly slimline with a chassis width of 600mm for working in restricted access areas.
There is still work to do at the centre so it was not ready for this year’s post Christmas gym rush but the completed facility is due to open in the Summer. Thanks to their compact size, UNIC mini cranes are always being used for awkward swimming pool construction projects where access is often restricted. Take a look at our case study for some examples.
