GGR Rail’s Unic mini cranes provide safe and cost-effective lifting solutions for working on restricted access electrification projects on UK railways.

A Unic URW-706 mini crane was used to erect overhead line gantries to the Paisley Rail Corridor, one of the busiest commuter routes in Scotland. This was the first time a mini spider crane had been used to carry out electrification work such as this.

The 6 tonne capacity mini crane was positioned across the rail tracks to lift a gantry beam precisely into place for fixing. GGR’s PTS trained operators were able to assist with the overnight job.

A smaller Unic URW-095 mini crane was used to lift bushing (hollow electrical insulators) at a feeder station in Retford. Compact spider cranes are often hired to install and repair bushing units as they have the required reach and precision lifting capabilities to lift these components into place for fixing and can work around surrounding obstacles.

GGR Rail’s spider cranes and rail lifting equipment are ideal for working on a wide variety of rail industry projects and have full Network Rail Product Acceptance. To find out more about how we can provide specialist lifting equipment for the rail sector visit the GGR Rail website.
