CraneOne of GGR’s high capacity mini crawler cranes got a mud makeover whilst working on Chelsea Harbour, the North bank of the River Thames, London.

Our  MCC805 mini crane crawler crane spent three weeks working along the stretch of water  that is on the site of the disused, Lots Road power station. The space is being transformed into the Chelsea Waterfront development. The development will include two glass residential towers, three riverside buildings arranged around landscaped gardens along with the refurbishment of the historic power station.

The 8 tonne capacity telescopic crawler crane was used to lift 6 metre long supporting waler beams and lift a man basket over sheet piles down to water level. The crane lifted the 500kg two-man basket, over the side of sheet piling to fit nuts onto a number of bars along the length of the barrier. When lifting personnel in a man basket, the capacity of compact cranes is reduced by 50% as an added safety factor; this was no problem for our heavy-duty crawler crane.

DSC_0027The MCC805 crane worked at an 8 metre radius to lift the man basket over the sheet piling as there was a 5.3 metre gap between the water and the dry land. Its hard wearing tracks came in very useful for working on the uneven and muddy ground and made light work of travelling down the access ramp to reach its lifting location.

GGR’s crawler cranes, UNIC mini spider cranes and mobile pick and carry cranes are often used for safely working in restricted access areas around water on waterways, and on marine projects. Take a look at our Waterways gallery and Port & Marine Lifting gallery for some examples of our miniature machines at work.
