A Unic mini spider crane helped get the new St James Theatre ready for its opening night as it created an attention-grabbing marble staircase in their reception area.

A 2.9 tonne capacity Unic URW-295 mini crane put on a lifting performance of showstopping precision when carefully manoeuvring each of the 24 stone sections at this extremely confined site on Palace Street in central London. The newly built theatre complex is due to open in September 2012.

Gaining access through the reception doorway, this compact crane lifted each marble piece into position, stacking some sections on top of each other before they were securely bolted together. All together this unusual feature staircase weighs 23 tonnes, comprising of larger 2 tonne stone segments at the back and smaller 1 tonne parts at the front.

Take a look at how GGR’s versatile compact cranes have been used to install steel and stone staircases for various other restricted access lifting projects.
