Since GGR’s range of Oscar robots were launched last year they have been put to the test on a number of challenging glazing projects. Now these machines have graduated onto becoming one of our most popular pieces of lifting equipment for tricky lifting tasks such as this one at MediaCityUK in Salford.

GGR’s 600kg capacity Oscar 600 robot  and a GGR operator were hired to replace a broken black spandrel panel on this University of Salford building at MediaCityUK.  The outer leaf of the insulated corner unit was shattered so the whole 180kg glazed panel needed to be replaced.

With six suction pads and a telescopic lifting arm, the Oscar 600 was able to carry the new 3.5 metre long unit and hold it in position while an operator on a cherry picker fixed it to the curtain wall.  As the Oscar’s chassis is just 780mm wide is could easily make its way to this restricted access location and work around the nearby columns.

Now the building looks as good as new ready for the university’s fresh intake of new undergraduates studying broadcast journalism, film studies and media technology this Autumn.
