Two of GGR’s mini spider cranes came to the rescue recently, completing an overnight tandem lifting job at the Copper Box venue in London’s Olympic Park.

GGR’s expert lifting team were called quickly into action to help lift a tipped over cherry picker in the indoor stadium where handball games and the fencing element of the Modern Pentathlon will be taking place during the London 2012 Olympic Games.

A pair of Unic URW-295 mini cranes was hired to help stand the 2900kg cherry picker upright so last minute venue preparations could go ahead on schedule.  The machine’s weight was distributed evenly between the two cranes so it wouldn’t be damaged during the synchronized lift.

The handball court’s pristine floor was protected by the sets of timber billets and mats placed under the lightweight crane’s outriggers. The crane duo had no trouble gaining access to the court inside the complete arena as these compact machines have a 600mm wide chassis which can easily fit through a standard doorway.

This isn’t the first time a Unic mini crane has lent a hand with some courtside lifting, read more about how a Unic URW-547 helped refurbish a Czech basketball stadium.
