As a new addition to our expanding hire fleet in 2014, GGR’s mini crawler cranes are becoming more and more popular on restricted access sites for lifting and shifting large heavy loads. The MCC495 model was hired by a London university to help clad their new building with large glazed units.

The 4.9 tonne mini crawler crane was used to pick and carry glass panels from a stillage and move them to the installation point on one side the building. The MCC495’s compact 2.35 metre wide chassis was narrow enough to fit down the gap between the building façade and the surrounding fence which measured just 2.8 metres wide.

A Hydraulica 1200-A vacuum lifter, with its 1200kg capacity and 90° powered tilt function, could easily handle the 5.45 metre tall ground floor glass units. A 500kg capacity MRTA611 Six-in-Line lifter was also used for lifting smaller panels on the project.

The new university development will house a campus library, construction and architecture teaching facilities, lecture theatres and even TV studios.
