A Unic URW-706 mini spider crane exercised its 6 tonnes worth of lifting muscle recently to install steelwork to a house in Kew, London.

Special transport was used to lift the crane down onto basement level to install beams to create a steel frame for the building over two days. Mounted on timber billets for extra stability, the mini crane lifted 500kg to a 6 metre height and 1250kg beams to 3.5 metres

The compact but heavy duty Unic URW-706 model was perfect for this job as it could be easily transported to the working site and work with precision around obstacles in the restricted space available.

One of GGR’s Unic mini cranes proved to be an invaluable solution for lifting in confined spaces recently when it was hired for a job at Howdon Sewage Treatment Works in Northumberland.

The plant is the largest of its kind on the east coast of England and serves over one million people living on Tyneside. When steam pipework needed to be installed along a concrete wall base, a Unic URW-095 mini spider crane and an expert GGR operator were called in to provide lifting power on the congested site.

The 0.6 metre wide Unic URW-095 mini crane could be easily moved around the plant and set up around the existing machinery and structures with its positionable outriggers. Fitted with a searcher hook for extra reach, the mini crane lifted pieces of 250kg metal pipe up to a height of 4 metres.  GGR Group also provided a specially designed sturdy trolley to make sure that the pipework could be safely transported around the sewage works.

GGR’s compact cranes have also been vital to completing challenging lifts at other water treatment plants, for example installing carbon filter systems at Scalby Mills in Scarborough and replacing steel filter screens in Clydebank, Scotland.

A Unic mini crane worked into the small hours recently at Kings Cross Station, London as it installed a new decorative clock onto Platform 8.

The 2.9 tonne capacity Unic URW-376 has both lifting power and compact dimensions, which made it the ideal piece of lifting equipment to move through the rail station and onto the 7.9 metre wide platform.

GGR operators first used the mini crane with webbing slings to lift the 795kg metal support frame, then they lifted the 500kg clock and its side fittings onto the beam whilst workers on an access platform securely fitted the pieces together.

Thanks to GGR’s Unic mini crane the 6 metre high clock was safely and easily installed overnight, causing no disruption to the commuters during rush hour the next morning.

Waterland Trading has become the latest company to become an official Unic mini crane dealer in the Unic Cranes Europe network, supplying our compact cranes to the Dutch and Belgian construction industries.

Waterland Trading, which has offices in Purmerend, Netherlands and Diest in Belgium, will now include Unic mini cranes alongside Tadano FAUN cranes as part of their hire fleet. Established in 1991 by CEO Peter J.E Bleyenberg, Waterland Trading started supplying telescopic cranes to the Dutch market before setting up a second division in Belgium five years later.

To add a new dimension to their thriving business, Waterland Trading have chosen a popular 2.9 tonne capacity Unic URW-295 model as the first mini spider crane to join their hire fleet. They will also be sending staff to our head office in Long Crendon to receive some expert training on how to operate these small yet strong machines.

GGR Group’s range of mini cranes and vacuum lifters are often chosen as practical lifting solutions for construction and glazing work in car showrooms.

A Unic URW-095 mini spider crane and an MRT4 vacuum lifter made installing large beaded glass windows to the Monks Heath Motor Company showroom a simple task. For this job, the mini crane was required to work across obstacles such as a grass verge and graveled area to lift the glass panes from the van-mounted stillage on the roadside to the window frame.

The MRT4 lifter and mini crane were transported around the building to lift the four large 225kg windows into position. The compact size of the URW-095 crane made it ideal for working in confined spaces on site, whilst providing enough lifting power to easily handle the 4 metre by 2.4 metre panels.

GGR’s lifting equipment has also been used to help glaze larger showrooms for household names such as Volkwagen. This time a Unic URW-376 mini crane was used with a versatile MRT4 lifter on this busy construction site to move glass units onto two levels of a steel structure, where glaziers could fit the units from an access platform.

GGR Group took a trip to The Quince Tree in Stonor, Oxfordshire recently to help fix an eye-catching piece of artwork onto the restaurant’s wall.

To lift the 120kg circular mirror to a height of 5 metres, GGR offered the combination of a portable Glassmax 250 manual hoist and dual circuit MRT4 glass vacuum lifter as the most simple and effective lifting solution for this job.

The lightweight Glassmax 250 hoist could easily transported inside the restaurant into position ready for lifting the 3.2 metre diameter disc with the popular MRT4 lifter. The vacuum pads on the 320kg capacity MRT4 glass sucker were attached to surface of the 6mm thick mirror to give secure hold during the lift until the load was firmly fixed in place.

The first ever spider crane on wheels, the Unic URW-295 Radial, made its debut appearance at the Intermat 2012 exhibition last week.

The Unic URW-295 Radial is an adapted version of the popular 2.9 tonne capacity URW-295 that can be easily manoeuvred thanks to the two sets of wheels added to its chassis. This compact machine has all the hallmark features of the standard URW-295 mid-capacity mini crane including a 0.6m wide body, so moving through restricted access sites is simple.
